Content creation is essential for building a successful digital presence, and in this blog I’m going to share my secrets to creating higher quality video content, FAST. With the right set up and the help of Artificial Intelligence, creating captivating and professional content has never been easier. In this comprehensive tutorial, I’ll link all my recommended equipment options and walk you through the process of setting up your content creation studio and using powerful AI tools to script engaging content, produce the most visually appealing videos, and edit seamlessly.
Step 1: The Perfect Lighting Setup
Start by creating a visually appealing setup with a 3-point lighting system consisting of a Key Light, a Fill Light, and a Back Light. The Key Light is the scene’s primary light source, placed 45 degrees from the subject. It is the brightest source that illuminates the subject. The Fill Light is in place to cancel out shadows casted by the Key Light. It is less powerful (20-50% brightness) and placed opposite of the Key Light. A Back Light is often placed higher than the subject to illuminate from behind, separating the subject from the background. To add brand personalization to your space, colored back lights are a great option. This setup will enhance the quality of your videos and ensure a professional look.
Step 2: Invest in a DSLR Camera and Tripod
While you can still create stunning content with just your phone, upgrading to a DSLR camera will significantly improve the quality of your videos. Pair it with a sturdy tripod to keep your shots steady and consistent. By now, you should already have all three lights in place. I highly suggest you get someone else to sit down where you would be sitting, just for a couple of minutes to position where you would be in the video. Now, turn all the lights off and close all the blinds until the screen on your camera view is pitch black. You should barely even see anything from your set here. Turn on your key light first and take a look at your camera. If that looks like a good brightness on your subject, go ahead and turn on your fill light, then turn on your back light. Made any necessary camera setting adjustments as needed. This process is really going to be about iterations and adjustments to get the image that you want for your brand.
Step 4: High-Quality Audio Setup
Audio quality is vital, and arguably the most important aspect when creating video content. While you can use your phone to record content if your room is silent, I recommend investing in a good microphone, such as the Rode, Shure SM7B, or Blue Yeti, to ensure crystal-clear audio quality for your videos.
Step 5: Connecting Your Camera to the Computer
Use an HDMI cord and an Elgato Cam Link to connect your DSLR camera to your computer, turning it into a high-quality webcam.
Step 6: Mastering Short-Form Content
For Instagram Reels, TikTok, and shorts, I use Ideaify's Short Form Video Script tool and Content Topic Ideas tool. Step 9: Test, Test, Test
You don’t want to make the mistake of filming all your content in one sitting, only to realize your microphone was off. Before you film, I highly recommend testing first. Your lighting should already be optimized for your camera settings from step 2. Now take a few test videos to make sure everything looks and sounds perfect.
Step 10: Efficient Editing with Descript
Simplify the editing process with Descript, an AI-based editing app that transcribes your voice and provides easy captioning and editing solutions. Your Elgato cam link will allow your camera to be viewable as a webcam directly into this app. It allows you to edit like you are editing a text document, where you can add visuals and audio, cut sections out, move them around, and copy & paste different parts. As you speak, it uses AI to track your voice and generate a transcript of exactly what you say in your video. When you edit that transcript, it actually edits the video itself.
